What we do
Every circuit, labeled.
Eight kinds of work, laid out the way we leave every panel: clearly marked, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
All services- 1Service & panel upgrades100 to 200 amp service, new panels and meter sockets, sized for what your home runs today.
- 3Troubleshooting & repairsDead outlets, tripping breakers, flickering lights, partial power loss and scorched devices, found and fixed.
- 5Lighting, fans & switchesFixtures, ceiling fans, under-cabinet and accent lighting, outdoor and landscape lighting, and new switches.
- 7Permits & inspectionsWe apply for the electrical permit and coordinate the inspection so the work is on record and code-compliant.
- 2Whole-home surge protectionA surge protective device at the panel or meter that guards every circuit, not just the outlet strip.
- 4EV charger installationLevel 2 chargers at home or at work, with the load calculation and capacity check done first.
- 6New construction & remodelsElectrical planning, wiring, panels, lighting design and outlet placement for new builds and remodels.

What we stand on
Integrity. Excellence. Faith-driven values.
Those are Otto Electric’s own words for how the company works. In practice it means telling you plainly what we find, quoting the work before it starts, pulling the permit, and leaving a panel the next electrician can read.
All electrical work is performed or directly supervised by Kyle (our master electrician) to ensure safety, quality, and code compliance.
About Otto Electric“We believe in operating honestly, treating every client with respect, and honoring our work as a reflection of our faith and commitment to doing what is right.”

A real job
100 amps to 200, same wall.
The old 100 amp meter socket on this brick house was replaced with a 200 amp meter socket and a service disconnect: more capacity for today’s loads and a proper way to shut the whole house off from outside.
If your panel is full, your breakers trip when two things run at once, or you’re planning an EV charger or heat pump, this is usually where the job starts.

Local knowledge
Head of the Bay, both sides of the line.
Otto Electric is based in Elkton and works across Cecil County, Maryland and New Castle County, Delaware: from the head of the Bay to the Susquehanna, and over the state line to Newark, Bear and Wilmington.
The houses
Historic homes in Elkton, Chesapeake City and Port Deposit with wiring added over generations; post-war houses still on 100 amp panels; newer subdivisions adding EV chargers, heat pumps and finished basements.
The power
Delmarva Power serves most of Cecil County and northern Delaware. Newark, DE runs its own city electric utility, and some rural Cecil County roads are on Choptank Electric Cooperative.
The paperwork
Cecil County, the Town of Elkton, New Castle County and Delaware cities each have their own permit and inspection rules. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
The weather
Thunderstorms off the Bay, nor’easters, river flooding along the Susquehanna and the occasional tropical-storm remnant. Surge protection and a labeled panel pay off.

Straight answers
Electrical questions.
What should I do if I smell burning near an outlet, switch or panel?
Turn off the breaker for that circuit, or the main breaker, if you can reach it safely, then call a licensed electrician. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911.
A burning or hot-plastic smell usually means a loose connection or an overloaded device is heating up. Don’t keep using the outlet or switch, and don’t reset a breaker that has tripped on a circuit that smells. A scorched receptacle like the one in our job photos is a typical result of a connection that worked loose over years.
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs are frequent breaker trips, lights that dim when appliances start, a full panel with no spaces left, an outdated or damaged panel, and plans to add big loads like an EV charger, heat pump or addition.
A load calculation tells you for certain. During a free electrical safety evaluation we look at your panel and service and tell you whether an upgrade is needed or not.
What is whole-home surge protection and do I need it?
It is a surge protective device installed at the panel or meter that diverts voltage spikes to ground before they reach the house wiring. It protects things you can’t plug into a power strip, like the furnace, heat pump, range and well pump.
Thunderstorms, utility switching and large motors all cause surges. For most homes it is an inexpensive layer of protection, and it pairs well with point-of-use strips for sensitive electronics.
Can my house handle a Level 2 EV charger?
Many can, but it depends on your service size and what else you run. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 240 volt circuit, and an electrician should do a load calculation before installing it.
If the panel is short on capacity, options include a service upgrade or a load-management device. We check capacity first so the charger works without tripping breakers.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in Cecil County?
Most electrical work beyond simple like-for-like device replacement needs a permit and an inspection. In Cecil County that runs through the Department of Permits and Inspections, and the Town of Elkton has its own requirements inside town limits.
Inside Elkton town limits, an electrical contractor needs both a Maryland state license and a Cecil County license. We handle permits and coordinate inspections for our jobs.
How do I verify an electrician is licensed in Maryland?
Maryland master electricians are licensed by the State Board of Master Electricians in the Maryland Department of Labor, which has a public license lookup. Cecil County and the Town of Elkton also require contractors to hold local licenses.
Ask for the license number and proof of insurance, check the license online, and make sure the person who will do or supervise the work is the licensed one. At Otto Electric, all work is performed or directly supervised by Kyle, our master electrician.
